Duck Rice Pack Holder Pattern!

     Please Read : Do not leave young children unattended with one of these . They have buttons and handmade items can come apart just like store bought .
 

Materials:

Redheart yarn in colors you need
Scissors
Yarn needle
Buttons
4.25MM or G hook
Stuffing

Abbreviations:
ch-chain
hdc-half double crochet
dc-double crochet
trc-triple crochet
sp-space
st-stitch
sts-stitches
blo-back loops only
flo-front loops only
Repeat between * -Means to repeat the directions between the two star symbols

Gauge:

2"x 2" swatch = 5 rows and 7 hdc


Main Body:

Ch 21
Round 1- Hdc in second ch from hook and all the way across to second to last ch , 3 hdc in last ch , hdc on opposite side to create the first round making sure to crochet around the chains , when you get to last chain hdc 3 in last chain . Do not join .

Round 2- *Hdc in next 21 stitches and 3 hdc in next st * repeat between * one more time . Do not join .

For remaining rounds hdc in rounds until both width and length are close to equal . It should end up being about 6 1/2 inches both ways . Slp st in beginning st . Do not fasten off continue to next step .



Flap with button holes to close:

Row 1- Hdc in next 22 sts , ch 1 , turn .

Row 2- Hdc in blo all the way across , ch 1 , turn .

Row 3- Hdc in flo all the way across , ch 1 , turn .

Rows 4-5 - Repeat rows 2-3 one more time .
 
Row 6 - In blo ,  hdc in next 3 sts ,ch 1 , sk next st , * hdc in next 4 sts ,ch 1 , sk next st * repeat between * two more times , hdc in last 3 remaining sts , ch1 , turn .

Row 7- In flo , hdc in next 3 sts , hdc in ch 1 sp * Hdc in next 4 sts , hdc in ch 1 sp * repeat between * until you have the last 3 sts remaining . Hdc in last 3 sts and fasten off making sure to weave in ends .


NOTE : You should have the same amount of stitches you started with .


Last step is to sew on the buttons making sure to line them up correctly with the button holes we just created . Make sure to double knot the buttons when tieing them on , I triple knot mine .

Duck Feet (Make 2):

   Either magic circle or ch 2 to start .

Round 1- 8 hdc in second ch from hook , do not sl st to join .

Round 2 - 2 hdc in each st around (16)

Round 3 - * hdc , dc , trc , dc , hdc all in same st , slp st in next st * repeat between * two more times , continue to sc around until you reach first st , slp st , fasten off leaving long enough tail to sew with .

Beak:

Ch 7

Row 1- Sc in second ch from hook and all the way across , ch 1 , turn .

Row 2- Sc across , ch 1 , turn .

Row 3 - Sc decrease , sc in next st , sc decrease in last 2 sts , ch 1 , turn .

Row 4- Sc across , ch 1 , turn .

Row 5- Sc decrease twice then continue to crochet around work . Once you reach the top sc decrease one time then slp st , fasten off leaveing a long enough tail to sew with .

Eyes (Make 2 ):

Magic circle or ch 2 to start .

Round 1- Sc 6 in second ch from hook , change to white and ch 1 .

Round 2- 2 sc in each st around , slp st to first st , ch 1 .

Round 3 - Hdc in next st , 2 hdc in next , do this until you have 12 sts , dc in next st , 2 dc in next , hdc in next st , 2 hdc in last st , slp st to join and fasten off leaving a long enough tail to sew with .

Hair on head ( Make 3):

Ch 8

Row 1- Slp st in second ch from hook and all the way across , fasten off .

   Now sew all the pieces to the main body of the duck and there you have it , a cute duck rice pack cozy .
